Byrne's practice is rooted in landscape, specifically the ruined, the peripheral and the quietly forgotten. Raised in Scotland, Byrne developed an early fluency in reading place through what remains: the remnant croft, the post-industrial shell, the land that has reclaimed what people left behind. These spaces form the emotional and conceptual core of his work.

Trained at Glasgow School of Art, his paintings interrogate the tension between memory and decay, the ruin as both monument and threshold, caught between a past it cannot return to and a future it cannot predict.

Byrne has exhibited both across the United Kingdom and internationally. Selected exhibitions include the Royal Scottish Academy Annual Exhibition (2022), Art Expo New York (2022) and MADS Milano (2020).

His work has been featured in British Vogue across three consecutive editions (2020–2021), Tatler (2020), and he has appeared twice as a wildcard artist on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year (2017, 2018).
